History

Sri Raja Rajeshwari Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Mother Sri Rajarajeswari. The temple is located in Durgamitta, Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh state.

Sri Sri Arul Jyothi Nagaraja Murthy Peetadhipathi of Sri Raja Rajeswari Peetam in Arcot district of Tamil Nadu was traveling to Vijayawada in 1965. He became tired and took rest at Durgamitta. While taking rest he felt the presence of Goddess Rajarajeswari Devi in the land opposite to him and asked the local peoples to construct a temple on the same land. Mr.Ratnaswamy Mudaliar took permission from the then Collector and constructs the temple in the same year. In 1985 the Endowment department has taken over the control.

Devi Navaratrulu (Dussera) is a famous festival, which devotees celebrate here and offers prayers.

Nellore Rajarajeswari Temple is famous for Rahu Ketu pooja on Friday. Especially, lady devotees worship Godess Rajarajeswari by lighting up the deepam (lamp) and perform pooja.
