History

Vadabhandeshwara Temple is a very famous Hindu temple located in Uddinahithlu, Malpe, Karnataka. Temple is devoted to Lord Balaram. The temple is dedicated to Lord Balrama (brother of Lord Krishna)is situated near Malpe Beach. It is said that the idol of Lord Balram was installed by Philosopher Sri Madhavacharya. Madavacharya was a prominent philosopher during the Bhakti Movement. He propagated the philosophy of reality. As the legend goes, when Sri Madavacharya was meditating on the seashore of Malpe there was a storm in the sea and a ship had got into the trouble. Madavacharya ran to the aid of the ship and brought it to the shore. The sea shore near Vadabhandeshwara Temple is said to be the place where Madhavacharya had a vision of Lord Krishna is a sacred spot and a shrine for Lord Subramanya is built here. Evening is the best time to visit this temple, which allows you to also visit the near by beach and watch the beautiful sunset. The Vadabhandeshwara temple is at a distance of about 4 miles away from Udupi towards the west.
