History

Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Kamakshi Tayee Ammavari Temple is is located on Jonnawada, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. Jonnawada Kamakshi is a famous temple and is dedicated to goddess Kamaksh and Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy, one of the variations of Shakti, is situated on the banks of Penna River, 12 km from the heart of Nellore city. It is famous for Sri Mallikarjuna swamy and Kamakshi amma temple constructed in the year 1150. The goddess Kamakshi is believed as an incarnation of Shakti. A ‘Sri Chakram’ was installed here by Sri Jagadguru Adhi Sankaracharya. The temple entrance door, Dwaja Sthabham and the gopuram of the temple adorning with five kalasams on the top are made out of gold. Sri Jagadguru Sankaracharya has installed a “Sri Chakra” at this place. It is believed that praying to Sri Chakram with an offering of one’s own choice would get them success in life. Brahmotsavam is performed in Vaisaka Masam of Telugu month and Nine days of Dasara festival alsocelebrated in a grand way. For people who are interested in mythology, on the sidelines of the temple entrance walls is engrossed a black marble giving information of all “Ashtadasha Shakti Peetam”. There are 18 shakti peethas in the world 1 in Sri Lanka and the rest in India.
