History

Rajarajeshwari Temple is one of the old and beautiful temples in Pattanagere, RR Nagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka. RR Nagar is one of the famous localities in South Bengaluru, various religious places, educational institutions and Tech Park make it a hub in itself. Kailash Ashram was built on the banks of river Vrishabhavati. In fact, this locality derives its name from Rajarajeshwari Temple built by Kailas Ashrama Samsthanam. Sri Kailash Ashrama Mahasamsthana in Kenchenahalli  was founded by His Holiness Sri Sivaratnapuri Swamiji  in 1960. His Guru was Sri Sivapuri baba who lived in Kathmandu. The Guru, after initiating him asked him to go south, where, he said there was much good work to be done. Before coming down South, Swamiji went to Mount Kailas. There, during intense meditation, he had a vision of the triple divinities of Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswathi; and a bodiless voice asked him to go to Karnataka. Later, Sri Tiruchi Swamigal decided to construct a shrine for the divine mother, Rajarajeshwari. Now, this beautiful shrine is also known as Jnanakshi Rajarajeshwari Temple in Bengaluru. Sri Ganapati and Sri Rajarajeswari reside here in the form of granite murtis, and Lord Siva is present as “Sri Nilakantha Prana Lingeswara,” a beautiful and rare lapis lazuli Siva Lingam. Other Sannidhi deities include Nataraja with Sivakama Sundari, the Navagrahas, Bhairava, Dattatreya, Ardhanariswara, Skanda with Valli and Devayani, Utsava Ganapati and Utsava Devi.
